About
This comedian from Bolton masterfully navigates the weird and wonderful world of a big, tough Army Veteran with the naivety and innocence of bringing up his daughter alone.
He cleverly and openly talks about his faults as a man and father, finding humour in some surprising places.
Look out Peter Kay, a new Bolton Comedy Legend has arrived!
Backstory
Jim Bob served in the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment as an infantry soldier back in the 90’s. He served in Germany, Bosnia, France and Canada. As well as several postings across the UK , including public duties in London, guarding Buckingham Palace and The Tower Of London.
At just 17, Jim Bob was part of a hand picked group of 30 men selected to go to Bosnia, very early in the conflict. This tour had a lifelong effect on him, with many incidents still haunting him today. Jim Bob spent his 18th birthday in Bosnia, returning for his second tour 3 years later and spending his 21st birthday there too.
Jim Bob spent the next 10 years drinking heavily, regularly in trouble with the law, not caring what happened to him until his daughter was born. After escaping an abusive partner, Jim Bob and his daughter have faced the world together. Jim Bob is now (30 years late) receiving treatment for PTSD, anxiety and depression.
During COVID, Jim Bob became a co-founder of The Darren Deady Foundation, now volunteering for them whenever he can. Later also volunteering with RBL and Veterans Army with fundraising and events.
Benefits of doing stand up
Jim Bob has always been a huge fan of stand up comedy, but never thought about having a go himself until he saw an advert on Facebook for a comedy course. He completed this course, signed up to another with The Frog and Bucket, and has been gigging at every opportunity ever since!
Jim says:
“The thrill, the feeling when you hit the punchline and the audience laugh, it’s like nothing i’ve ever felt before. What a rush! I feel alive again!”
