About
Andy is a staunch Yorkshireman than became a southerner aged just 17 when he moved and was based in Plymouth and Poole.
Love of comedy and a guy that likes to break awkward silence with a silly joke or story. Skilled at changing a boring or very serious subject on a complete tangent by saying something to lighten the mood. A big supporter of all things military. Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion being two great communities he'd like to get involved with.
Backstory
Joined as a boy soldier back in 1977. Became a fully trained commando soldier aged just 17 and a half! I was based with 29 Commando RA spending 5 glorious years in Plymouth. I then volunteered to join 148 Commando based at RM Poole where I served for the rest of my career (almost 25 years) – less for time out as the Signal Sergeant Major with the ACE mobile force (AMF)
He saw action in various places, notably The Falkland Islands and Iraq. Loved every minute of my service life. Learning many skills and trades as well as meeting and making great friends for life.
Leaving in 2001 – a tough start to civilian life working in communications. Now living and working in the sunny Algarve. Not a day goes by when I don’t think of my time with the military.
Benefits of doing stand up
Comedy is natural. It changes moods and perceptions. Andy loves to tell stupid and mad jokes. He really enjoys a captive audience and finds doing stand up a thrill and an entertaining buzz.
A graduate of Jay Sodagar’s (Laughing Horse’s) Beginners Course, he learnt how to script stories and turn them in to funny antidotes. Based in Portulgal, he has now acted as MC at numerous gigs.
Andy says:
I am looking forward to working with the team at Project comedy and getting out there a lot more. Happy to fly back to UK and get involved. Lets make the world laugh, because I think it needs it!”
