About
This comedian is from Co Antrim in NI and is a current serving Officer in the Royal Navy. Irish has three children and a Lancashire wife, who all provide great material for his set. He is a storytelling comic that weaves all aspects of his life into his stories, taking the audience on a journey of fun and laughter.
Backstory
Irish joined the Royal Navy in 1997 as an Air Engineering Mechanic. He has served on HMS INVINCEABLE, CORNWALL, BULWARK and twice on our newest aircraft carrier, HMS PRINCE OF WALES. He has also served on Squadrons such as 810, 814 and the SAR Squadron 771. As a much younger man, he completed three tours of NI within Moscow Barracks in Belfast.
At the time of his promotion to Chief Petty Officer, the Navy decided to end the service life of the mighty Sea King helicopter. This prompted him to seek a career change and become an Officer in the RN. Completing training in 2015, he is now a Lt Cdr and is due to take over the Leadership Academy in HMS COLLINGWOOD early 2025.
Benefits of doing stand up
Irish has always had a love for standup and gets to as many live shows as he can. In July of 2023, his wife dared him to step on a stage and try it himself. 15 months later he is fast approaching 200 gigs, post a busy part run in Edinburgh and in the coming weeks, he will proudly Headline the open mic night he started at.
Irish says:
”Comedy is instantaneous feedback, if your joke works the crowd laugh and laughter really is the best medicine."
